As mentioned earlier, something "simple and fast" would be an arrow (or multiple arrows).
I'm not entirely opposed to the idea of an arrow, but I'm having a hard time thinking of a way to make it look good. I think the coloration of the arrow you made wasn't optimal, and a short fat arrow has the irony of no longer looking fast.

A rocket would also be a possibility, but it's not necessarily simple ;)
Or a rocket strapped to a comet... with a raptor riding it... but yeah, not too simple  ;D

Yes, we should try something different if we chose an arrow. Maybe combine it with the pentagon, and maybe have 2-3 arrows...

Anyway, I also think Laurent should tell which ideas he generally likes and which ones not ;)

You're putting too much pressure on me ;D

I'm like you, I have no idea about what the logo should be. I can tell you that the gray & green colors look good, as well as the "shining" effect. The font is ok too. But I have no idea about what symbol or shape the logo should have :(

Gathering some feedback:
- slim arrow
- "SFML" part of the logo
- simple

...here is a new concept:

This is just a quick and dirty preview, I just had 5 minutes to do it. The arrow could be interleaved better with the letters, and the lighting effect must be adjusted. Then we could think about details to make it more "personal", like twisting the end of the arrow, using a "texture" instead of flat green, adding small details to the arrow, or whatever.

Just an idea :)

Hehe, that's also the idea that came to my mind, but I haven't had time to create it. ;)
I could also see the font and arrow slightly tilted.

My opinion:

The off/on button was good. The power button reminder me of multimedia equipment, and that is somewhat related to the multimedia aspect of SFML.

The arrow only means speed and violence/hunting/war. The link with SFML is really small. And it's not as good looking really.

Here's a few quick ideas I've sketched out:

Using a "play" button to represent "multimedia" and curly braces {} to represent the "library" part:

I would probably put the arrow behing the L, but it looks fantastic. It is the one that has appealed the most to me.

The arrow looks like a wave/sine, doesn't it convey a wrong impression? (like audio/analysis stuff)

Not to me. I see it more like you start at the beginning of something, and you end at somewhere else, which is further, using SFML. I could also go up to the point where there is up and down in every development process, and it could represent that, but I'm pretty sure that was thought when it was made haha :P

I thought it was a sine wave at first (and it probably is), and the first thing that came to me was a math library. I think Haze's logo is visually nice, but I'm having a hard time relating it to SFML itself. And in terms of being "fast" (which is what the arrow was originally meant to represent), a sine wave doesn't look very fast (but then again, I suppose the arrow can mean something other than "fast").

I really like the idea of an arrow!

This is a great start I think. Maybe try some different arrow styles?

I also agree that the wavy arrow isn't quite what we want. A straight and true arrow is the way to go!
