Title: Project Black Sun - commercial game - demo available
Post by: gekko on October 18, 2011, 04:32:25 pm
Hi! First of all, SFML is great library. Very easy to use and consistent. Our first commercial game Project Black Sun is now finished and released at Indievania. It is a challenging game with elements similar to what we have seen the Metroid games. You can go to check gameplay trailer at our youtube channel http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=pQ3G1ZICwKo

It uses SFML 2 for window creation, loading images, input handling, loading and playing sounds and background music. We didn't use graphics library because we will port the game for mobile devices in the future.

Edit2
Now available at Desura!

Nice trailer. Did anyone else see the Bellsprout at 1:19?

Cool trailer, I like the graphics style :)

May I ask what you used as graphics library? Maybe direct OpenGL?

We used our own OpenGL rendering. :)

That looks beautiful. Those detailed animations reminds me a lot of Metal Slug.

I'd love to hear how your mobile porting work goes. I've been meaning to port my work to mobile devices and I'd love to hear how other SFML devs do it.

Very nice game! I like the smooth movement, the sound effects, and the music fits very well. Also the graphics is nicely retro and detailed. One thing is strange for me - the controls. I've run it from Wine, all went fine.

Good game, bad controls. You should make W jump, shift crouch, R reload, Space Bar shoot, maybe E for grenade, and allow key binding so you can customize the controls to your liking. Most people are complaining about the controls in the reviews, and I agree they are rather awkward, but otherwise it's a good game.
