Python / pysfml 1.3 joystick not detected

i am trying to use pysfml 1.3 to interface with the joystick. but when i try to check if the joystick is connected it always returns false. I have tried with two joysticks. Logitech attack 3 and Xbox 360 wired controller. Both these joysticks seem to work using pygame.
