Dev diary #1 --

-----

I've been lurking here for about 10 days.  I've been working in gamedev, programmer & designer, since 2001 but I've taken the last 3+ years off from the game industry after some pretty severe burnout.  My last published title was an iPhone game called Puzzle Chess which I wrote in Obj-C utilizing OpenGL.  Before that I was working on 2D platforming titles for the Nintendo DS.  I'm very rusty at coding (apparently a 3 year hiatus is detrimental to your skills! who knew?) but a fresh idea has given me a great bit of excitement and eagerness to get back into the game, no pun intended.

I'm really enjoying using SFML.  I had originally started off with SDL but after a few days I reevaluated my choice and was sold on a switch with no regrets.  Decoupling my game object development from the renderer made the easier but what really did it was the simplicity at which you interact with SFML's core.  It's made my entry back into the programming world as painless as possible.  I've used a couple different open source rendering engines before but my short time with SFML has been the greatest yet, hat's off to all you guys who contribute and make this a great piece of software for us all to enjoy.

On to the reason why you're probably here, the actual game:  The plan is for it to be a CMS (Construction Management Simulator) based around the exciting world of University life.  Think SimCity crossed with Prison Architect where the objective is to build and curate the best and most efficiently functioning University as you can.  This will involve construction of administrative, dormitory, recreational, educational, and athletic buildings, and the enrollment of students and hiring of staff to fill the positions created therein.

I'm working on this project as a solo indie endeavour and if you're interested in more information you can follow the progress at my blog here: http://cleavetv.blogspot.com/ or ask away here.  I plan on periodically updating this post with some milestone information as it becomes available.

Thanks all and especially to the developers of this great library.
