SFML Community Contest (German forum)
« on: April 01, 2009, 07:02:48 pm »
Hi all!

We at the German forum recently had  a community contest. The task was to code a pong clone in ~2 weeks. 5 people took part in it and submitted cool versions of pong clones.

We thought that some of you are maybe interested in testing the submitted entries. So here's the link to all 5 submissions: Download (~13 MB)

By the way: The winner of that round is AlZe with his incredible space pong clone. ;)

Thanks.

Thumbs-up to those of you who wrote the code in English and thumbs-down to the rest of you :)

Hehe, I always code in English, but I didn't participate in the first round.

However, I'm almost done with my game for round 2 -> English code ;)

You have to remember that C++ has English key words. So if you are writing German code in C++ you are mixing English and German which looks quite awkward.

I don't have any problems mixing english and german, but I know that it makes my code almost unreadable for someone who doesn't understand the german language. So as i said before, maybe I will change my mind and start writing english code :D .

A new round has ended! :-)

This time participants had to program a game similar to "Moorhuhn" (don't know if it's known outside Germany; screenshot here).

You can get the sources and binaries here (use contest for username and password).

Basically it's a good idea. But the reason why it only takes place in the German forum is support. The contest isn't there just for fun, but to learn by creating own solutions and learn from others. Most people who take part in it can talk best in their native language. That's why it's "limited" to the German forum.

If anyone of you wants to take part, go for it! Would love to see you around. ;)

And btw, the reason I show the entries here is to show other people what's possible with SFML with just a plenty of time and resources. Maybe it at least enhances the portfolio a bit and gives also Laurent some feedback on his great library. ;)

There's something in the planning stage for static content like this in the German sector. My plan is to create screenshots of every contest entry and provide the downloads. This will probably happen in English, so that the whole community benefits of it. A good place would indeed be the SFML wiki, thanks for that suggestion. :)
