Operating with sample rate

I am taking half second samples of audio.
I would like to collect a large amount of audio data in that time
What timing is setSampleRate() in?
What sample rate would you suggest?

Typical sampling rate values are 44100 (used for CD) 48000 or 96000.
44.1k will work nicely.
