I think Laurent chooses a logo that he thinks fits best for SFML, not that everybody likes.
And nobody stops you from fetching the "2.0"-tagged source code from the repository, compiling and using it. The binaries will be exactly the same as the ones you can download next week from the website.
Btw, this is a voluntary project. I always find it a little bit misguided to put pressure on the authors for releasing the product. If you want it to go fast etc., donate an amount that's high enough to pay Laurent for ~2 years, and he might consider working full-time on SFML.
