SFML on IndieDB?
« on: September 23, 2011, 10:25:49 am »
Hi!

This is - again - not an engine-related feature request from me. I've registered my game on IndieDB, and I've seen that SFML is not listed there as a game engine (yes, I know SFML is not only for games).

IndieDB + ModDB + Desura has about 500,000 memebers, so it might worth registering the engine there.

I also can do it for you, if you'd like me to do it, but it would be even better if you could do it, since SFML is your baby. :)

Cheers,
easy

All right! :)

Where could I find a high quality and high resolution version of the SFML logo?

For the description part, I'll use this page.

Also, where should I pick screenshots from? From the Project Announcements topic? Does anyone want me to upload his/her screenshots there?

Showing projects screenshots is a good idea :)

Well I would take games that's been released. Or well you can take these 3 for starters:

  • ICE, the minecraft clone.
  • Atom Zombie Smasher, awesome game by Blendo Games
  • Gore Factor, not released yet but looks awesome

Ok! Keep the ideas coming! Uploading screenshots can be continuous!

I'm going to create the profile now on IndieDB...

Allright, it's done!
I'll have to add the screenshots later, though.

Now it's awaiting for authorization, and later it'll be here:
http://www.indiedb.com/engines/sfml

I had to alter the logo: I've made the text available in white color and with a glowing effect, and I've masked the ellipse to be able to use it on non-white backgrounds, and saved it in .XCF (GIMP file).
Also, I've made a header which resembles the forum header up here, and added small thumbnails of the screenshots there.
Plus, next to ICE3, Atom Zombie Smasher, and Gore Factor, I've added HolySpirit from the French forums.

I'm gonna make a package of all these and upload them to SFML Uploads.

It might take a day or two for them to authorize the engine page, so I'll let you know about it when it's done!

SFML is now a listed engine on IndieDB! :)

Link: http://www.indiedb.com/engines/sfml

However, I cannot add screenshots, I'm gonna ask them why. I only can associate it to games, what I did with my game, so maybe others who has games listed on IndieDB and was made with SFML could also do that.

Ok, I believe you :)

The bad news is, although I have received an email from the IndieDB staff, that now I could upload images, actually I can't :D

So I've sent them another letter!

But the SFML engine page is now listed on IndieDB, so practically it's done. Thumbnails of the screenshots were added to the header image, but of course it'd be nice to be able to upload screenshots as well...
