Storefront Markup Language, the other *SFML*
« on: March 20, 2013, 01:38:16 am »
Did anyone else ever hear of the other "SFML"? Until thirty minutes ago, I hadn't.

I was doing some research for possible logo conflicts with the ideas bouncing around the "New Logo for SFML" thread and ran into this: http://www.storefront.com/sfml.html

Did a little digging to follow up: http://www.trademarkia.com/sfml-76133036.html

I hope that I am being overly cautious, but if there is some sort of problem on the horizon, it would be nice to head it off at the pass.

Corporations can be pretty petty with this sort of stuff...

Oofta, and they've been using it since 2000, long before *this SFML* was around. That sucks.

Yeah, I know.  :-\

But they are a relatively small company, not a multinational corporation, so I doubt they'll be jerks about this.

Been looking over articles and trying to make sense of the legalese, but the laws about this sort of thing come off as pretty arbitrary and up to subjective interpretation.

There's also SmartFadeML...
I doubt there will be a problem(I hope), it's not as stupid or phishing like the Linux™ was.
But these 3 SFMLs are completely different things(hardware, software, language) and you can't mistake one for another based on abbreviation.
