Currently Unamed 2d Tile Map RPG Game
« on: August 04, 2014, 07:37:57 pm »
Unnamed 8-Bit Retro 2d Tile map RPG Game
This game, as it is still unnamed, is not available but it is planned to have:

  • Multi-player
  • Fast and Fun
  • Modability

It does currently compile and run. I have no monetary interest and am doing this for learning experience. It may become commercial later but for the time being I want this to be a fun free game.

It is currently running and does have
moderate graphics
plugin system basics
health
basic inventory setup

Multyplayer will be available soon

I will be asking for beta testers eventually.

I will keep you guys posted.

Snapshot is not correctly sized and out of date.

Perhaps you could include a link and/or screenshot?
What you just posted doesn't tell us much (or anything).

Currently not released but I am looking for other programmers to help me. When reaching the Beta phase I will inform this forum when its ready. I am just asking for help. It is taking too long alone.

I could use
  • Other C++ sfml programmers (does not have to be even remotely professional)
  • Artist who can create good 8-bit style images and sprites (does not need to be great just good)

Any Helpers PLEASE?

With so few information and no screenshot or concept, it's very difficult to find new team members. Let alone a good artist (why should he join exactly you?).

It's something different if you just want to learn something together, and you are open for the type of project -- in that case there have been a few such posts in the past, I recommend searching for them...

This was just a joke. I meant no offence.

;D What he has planned is ambitious to say least, his recruitment has less then 100characters in length with almost no information...
If i was him id not take it as a joke but as a reality slap to the face...

If you really want to make game of such scale here is what i am suggesting:
Prove that you are able to finish such a huge project.
Prove your knowledge in language you are gonna make the game in.(Multiplayer application you made, fast paced game play example, and the way you plan making it moddable.

You stated "It does currently compile and run", examples, pictures, videos.

I highly suggest for you to research, learn, and come back again when you done that. If you still have the will, that will be your first step to having a good shot with your idea, and being taken seriously.

My final suggestion would be, to take your idea, and scale it really down. Then separate it intro peaces like:
Game.
Fun game.
Fast and fun game.
MultiPlayer
Moddable.
Finish first one, then build next one intro the first one, that way you will have allot better feel in progression.

Juniors can achieve "Fast and fun game." with little struggle, but to make it multyplayer and moddable  :-\.

By looking at this topic one must assume that someone needs to "shrink" his goals.

Thats what I took it as.

I have already done alot of windows socket programming so I am sure that I can make it have a decent multilayer. As for mods, that I know will be difficult but I am going to TRY to do it through lua.

I also know that mods and multiplayer will be one of the last things to go so I just need to have it to where I dont have to re-write too much code if I want to make it multiplayer or moddable. Just wanting to have it ready.

Update:

Currently I have a plugin system working. I am still working on chunk loading and the game is going great. I have a small group working on it and currently has many features. I thank those who are following (if any). My group will continue but currently I am not sure if I should continue the project. Map saving and loading is working currently as well as character editing. I will post images. Please tell me if i should continue. I have been working on this game, in total, for about a year.

We'll wait for the pics (and videos or demos, why not?) before saying whether you should give up a year of work or not. The value of something is not directly dictated by the amount of labor put into it. :)

We cannot tell you whether or not you should continue working on it, that is a choice that you and you alone should make. The game itself should be motivation enough for you to keep working on it and if it isnt, perhaps you should reconsider the project you are working on, maybe take a break or something?

This goes along better, some ideas don't need to be scraped, just reworked (which often means making it simpler).
