Problems capturing full screen mode for video
« on: January 12, 2017, 03:59:23 pm »
Hi, I'm just wondering if anyone else has had this problem? I wanted to make a video of my game to show the progress so far on youtube. I'm using Apowersoft free screen recorder. When i enter the game which is set to fullscreen, the software just records a black screen without any of the stuff that's going on in the game. Figured this is to do with sfml rather than the screen capture, as I don't think ptrscreen works either. Is there a fix for this?

Okay, it's the software that causes it. Apparently it will only record games if they're in borderless windowed mode. However, I managed to record in full screen using the screen capturer that comes with nvidia's geforce experience. Problem solved.

Apowersoft probably just does an actual screen capturing, which won't work when an application takes full control over the screen, i.e. fullscreen mode. Besides that, the performance of such a capturing mode is usually quite low. What you want instead is a tool that can capture game play footage, by either getting the video directly from the GPU or hooking itself into the game and grabbing the image data directly from OpenGL/DirectX.

ShadowPlay is will feed directly off the GPU and thus has one of the lowest impact on capturing game footage.

I can also recommend OBS Studio, which works with a lot of different recording methods and generally provides pretty much all the features you need to capture video.

I think that maybe your computer's resolution is set too low. 2. And how can the problem with resolution be solved?

To capture high-quality screen captures, you need to use the best software on the market. There are a few different ways to take high-quality screen captures. One way is to use professional screen capture software like Snagit or Movavi. These programs will allow you to record your screen and save high-quality footage. For example, I use Movavi and am delighted with it. You can read more about it at https://www.movavi.com/support/how-to/how-to-record-screen-on-mac.html. I never had any problem with this app; I think it's one of the best.
