When roughly can we expect 2.6.0?
« on: January 09, 2023, 12:48:26 pm »
I know there is a roadmap and various pages for this, but similarly these have been around for a while. I have an issue that makes a lot of SFML features impossible to use in 2.5.1 , that is fixed in 2.6.0 - namely the one outlined here

https://github.com/SFML/SFML/issues/1549

Exploitr might be familiar with it, since I have seen him comment in a lot of the forum posts for it here.

I would very much love to intergrate QT with SFML, and bring across the benefits of both a cross-platform UI library, and a cross-platform multimedia library such as SFML. It works perfectly in Windows, but it's simply impossible to use in its current state on OSX.

Any insight into this from the SFML team would be infinitely appreciated, for now i'll pursue other approaches, but i've loved using SFML for ages now, and want to keep using it into the future

My personal goal is to release it somewhen this year. Other than that, all I can give you is "as soon as possible".

We're a limited number of people working in their free time on the project, I wouldn't want to put others or myself under pressure, by setting a fix date.

The Scancode feature is closer than ever to the finish line and other points have mostly been addressed.
Next hurdles will be to do some final verification of the Scancode feature and then start preparation of the release.

But regardless of official release, there's really nothing standing in your way of using the SFML 2.6.x branch.
The 2.6.x branch is as stable as it gets, so unless you're waiting for the Scancode feature, don't just wait for an official release to switch ;)

I'd prefer we set a deadline to release 2.6.0 in the next 30-45 days. If that means scan codes wait until 2.7.0 or 3.0.0 I'm fine with that. However I believe I'm the sole maintainer with this opinion so don't expect this to actually happen.
