I'm wondering if there was a 'best-practice' sort of way to make spritesheets. I'm attempting to make some for myself right now, and I'm pretty bad at it.

You could do as I am for my artists. I created an application that takes all images in a folder and add them together into one complete image.

Or just download a program to do it for you. Here's the first one I found from a simple google search.
