Create a tutorial section
« on: June 20, 2012, 07:21:04 pm »
Hi!

Can you create an area for tutorials?
It would be very helpful. I especially sorry to miss.
Thus, several members will be able to tutorials, not only the creator (s) of the library.

Yes. But it is not a very helpful page...
In the forum, the members can make the tutorials more easily...
And the forum could be an integrated system, with tutorials, examples (source code), questions and answers, etc.

Note: Sorry for my english, if it is very bad.
I am not trying to use translators, for learning purposes.

I don't see where your problem is with https://github.com/SFML/SFML/wiki/Tutorials...

You can have example code and good explenations etc. If you have any questions about a tutorial you can easily use the forum to ask and get answers.
IMHO the comment system you mostly have underneath tutorials are often not that helpfull in anyway, becauser everything is pretty messy and unstructured. Using it in a forum would have about the same effect.

Also since it's a wiki, if you see a flaw and you're sure what you're doing then just edit it. This wouldn't wok in the forum, since only someone would have the rights to edit the first entry.

There are few tutorials.

It could have tutorials on how to make a game.
For example, a tutorial on how to make objects with their attributes, their enemies, the sprites. For example, "how do the basics of a Mario game", instead of "using the sprites".

Anyone can write tutorials and put them on the wiki.
If you think the wiki isn't helpful or complete enough, you're free to add your own tutorials. ;)

Lol.

You speak it, but do not see that the help for beginners in SFML is not so great.

I think to write good documentation, even in Portuguese, but as I learn. Meanwhile, it would be nice, someone who understands SFML, create some tutorials.

Not for nothing, but it seems that there is not much interest (not by the admin, because he is busy in creating the library itself) to help beginners.

Comments like "create the tutorials you" give that opinion.

I'm no longer really care about whether you will care about this issue, but I will continue studying SFML, and post to this forum.

Goodbye!

What you need is really general C++ knowledge, if you can't put data together, you shouldn't be looking at games just yet :)

I'm not even sure if I should answer here, I mean one normally says, don't feed the trolls. ::)

True, but that's what the community is for and SFML is compaired to other libraries with the same power quite young and in its beginning, so it's logical that there aren't tons of tutorials.

So basicly you're insulting everyone that puts quite some time into answering many many post on the forum? Just take a look at the member list and the count of post next to the names. Producing over 200 posts takes a lot of time. And don't forget the patience that is sometimes need. ;)
Also Laurent reads about nearly every topic and if not someone else got already the answer he most of the time solves the problems.

If you say 'Not for nothing' how would imagine this?
I'm now already contributing (finished 2 tutorials today and answered many questions in the forum), thus I'd gladly spend even a bit more time and get paid for it, but will you pay me or who?

Comments like "create the tutorials you" give that opinion.
That was the logical answer to your strange opening question. ("We should have a tutorial section!" - 'There is one already.' - "But it's nearly empty!" - 'Contribute to it.')
You act around here as if you'd own the place and can demand and order what you want, but this here is a community. Everybody brings their share, if it's answering in the forum or writing tutorials.
Instead of just demanding try to contribute as much as you can. ;)

So please get back on the ground, face the reality that not everyone spends all his freetime writing tutorials for free and that SFML is a very young library, and stop insulting people. :(

I do not wanna get enmities.

Also, I did not want to insult anyone.

I just think there could be more tutorials, but since there is not, I will continue to use the forum, anyway.

I like SFML and forum.

But is that I thought there could be more participation, but now that you've seen enough already, and as you said, the forum is still young.

Sorry for anything.

See you soon!

You have to know that SFML 2 is relatively young with its current API, the current version is still a release candidate. But I think this will come over time.

If you search in the forum, you'll nevertheless find some tutorials.

You don´t need SFML specific tutorials
You can read a lot of interesting topics in forums like http://www.gamedev.net/index
Or buy a good book in Amazon
Or USE GOOGLE !  ;D

If you understand the concepts, you can easily adapt them to SFML  ;)
If you try something and it doesn´t work, ask in the forums
