Goal and rules of this forum
« on: August 29, 2007, 02:43:05 pm »
Hi everybody

This forum has been created to talk about your projects using SFML, whether they are finished or not.

If you want to show your project, try to give as many details as possible : detailed description, how are you using SFML, screenshots, videos, demo, website, ...

Also, feel free to give your opinion about the other projects, and to share your experience about using SFML :)

The best projects will probably be shown in a future "projects page" on the website.

How is the "Projects page" coming along ? :D Would be nice with a hall of fame or something.

Not sure if this question is appropriate here, but it relates so...

...Is there any screen capture software that can record at 60fps? I've tried XSplit Broadcaster and it doesn't like doing 60. I haven't tried FME yet as my previous capture driver (SCFH DSF) no longer works under Windows7 SP1  .

What's Fraps like to use?
{much better code}

You may consider giving Krut a try:
http://krut.sourceforge.net/
I've used it to record a few videos, and while they do occasionally lag a bit, they get a pretty decent framerate. It's only a few megabytes and there's no installation, so it's probably worth a shot anyway. :)

I use Fraps and it works fine! 60fps, 30fps, 15fps can easily used.
I usually take videos at 60fps and then downgrade them to 30fps for Youtube.

If things get to a state where people are posting projects with too little information, it's not unreasonable to have minimum requirements for posting a project or at least "recommended guidelines".

Like "Must/should either have a video or four screenshots if no demo, or a video or two screenshots if it comes with an executable".
UnitTest11 - A unit testing library in C++ written to take advantage of C++11.

All code is guilty until proven innocent, unworthy until tested, and pointless without singular and well-defined purpose.

I would like a lot a projects page on SFML website... I used to develop with python and pygame before. On www.pygame.org they have a kind of gallery where users can post their programs and games to make them know to the public or to other pygame developer. I find it an awesome idea, also because you get to know what other users are making with your same library.

Cannot we have something like that, too?

Next to the subforum 'SFML projects' there's also the wiki on GitHub which stands free for anyone to use edit and contribute.
I think with those two options are quite enough. The forum is here for projects that are being worked on, so users can ask questions/make suggestions/say how awesome things are and if the projects are activily maintained they also will stay on the top and not get lost in the depth of the forum.
The wiki can more be used as some sort of summary and give an overview over diffrent projects, unfortunatly the project section is quite empty, because not many are using it/know of it.

If you like to see some bigger list, then feel free to edit the wiki any time. ;)

Although Laurent once wanted to update the website with the release of SFML 2, but seeing how busy he's with RL and the library itself I'm not sure if that is gonna happen, but if so maybe an better integration/linking to the wiki would be a nice feature. ;)

Maybe the webpage could have a section mirroring the wiki? Github's wiki is hosted in a git repo, obviously, so it's pretty easy to export and dynamically integrate with other pages, the only problem being that github's markdown has some non-standard extensions.

I'm wondering, in what stage must the projects you are working on be in in order to be posted here?
The one I'm working on is currently in pre-pre-alpha, and that might be a bit early to post about it?

As long as you have something interesting to show, you can post it ;)

And by the way things currently looks, it's gonna be a while before that happens. It'll come when it come

Laurent, can you add Youtube video support? It would help us promote our games if we can show videos :)

(maybe this already exists, although I don't know how to use it)

You can embbed YouTube videos, by simply posting the YouTube link. It doesn't work though if the URL is using HTTPS.
