This is a great start I think. Maybe try some different arrow styles?

I also agree that the wavy arrow isn't quite what we want. A straight and true arrow is the way to go!
I totally agree. Maybe one that looks more like an actual arrow (shot by a bow) rather than the logistic arrow.

Laurent, will you please release SFML 2 without a logo (just plain "SFML" text on the website would do, I think)? I don't expect a final logo decision to be made any time soon, but it seems like a shame to have SFML 2 done and not released...

This thread could literally stretch on for eternity.

I know... but I can't. I hope that the release of SFML 2.0 will be widely announced, and even if there's no logo, there will be "SFML" written in the menu bar, and that's what will be taken as the "logo" everywhere. I must have a logo.

But I'm more optimistic than you, I think we're getting close now.

And the packages are not all made anyway, so I can't release it now.

Sure an arrow is fast, but there is quite a gap from a medieval weapon to a multimedia library, don't you think it would look out of place?

The arrow looks like a wave/sine, doesn't it convey a wrong impression? (like audio/analysis stuff)
I thought it was a sine wave at first (and it probably is), and the first thing that came to me was a math library. I think Haze's logo is visually nice, but I'm having a hard time relating it to SFML itself.
The sine was semi-intended. I've tried straight arrows but the results would look too generic for my tastes, so I went with a curve.
Regarding the conveyed impression, I believe a curve is strongly associated with 2D graphics, I think it could fit the purpose.

And in terms of being "fast" (which is what the arrow was originally meant to represent), a sine wave doesn't look very fast (but then again, I suppose the arrow can mean something other than "fast").
Point taken! The curve has been decreased so the arrow is a bit more straight. I've added a light gradient to make the arrow darker at its beginning, I hope it reminds less of a sine.

It's far from final, just taken Laurent's idea, maybe one can further experiment on top of it:

As always, just tell if anyone wants the PSD.

Nexus, looking good! Have you tried with a white/bright SFML?

What about an arrow inside a hexagon? Sounds fairly unique to me ... and then it can be separated from "SFML" to be used standalone.

So, do we keep the arrow idea?

If so, what's your preferred version? Nexus, Haze or krzat?

So far I preferred Haze's logos for whatever idea that was around at the time.

His arrow version also looks the best so far in my opinion, although I'm not quite sure if that "sine" shape would imply anything that SFML isn't. Then again, it makes it look more dynamic than a straight arrow.

I prefer Haze's version too (although I dislike the text "simple and...", I'd prefer "SFML" alone).

You tell us  ;)

I think if you can at least say "we will use <insert one of the past many ideas in this thread>" then people can focus on it and create various versions focusing on that idea.

If so, what's your preferred version? Nexus, Haze or krzat?
I prefer Nexus's most recent version (though I'd tweak it a bit). I think Haze's is aesthetically nice, but I personally feel like a sine wave doesn't relate to SFML very well (maybe if SFML was a vector graphics library or something). krzat's is interesting, but I think the "FML" stands out too much.

What must be the impression of the logo? Do you want to accentuate on the simplicity, the 2d rendering, the 3d rendering or the audio? I think that if you want to focus on 2d, it's a nice idea to make the logo 2d as well. I think krzat's logo really stands for simplicity. If you want to focus on 3d perhaps it's a nice idea to make the logo with blender or something? I read some Gnome application icons are made with blender too. Not that I can, though, not that creative xD
