Thanks so far to everyone that has suggested themes so far  ;D

However in just a day or so I will be closing suggestions and opening up voting, so for all of you that haven't submitted theme ideas, you better get on it if you want your theme to be considered  ;)

More details on voting will follow when voting becomes available.  :)

Theme voting open!
« Reply #3 on: January 27, 2014, 01:36:20 am »
Alright, voting is now open!  :D

However before that let me explain the rules.  8)

  • For this jam there will be 4 votes per person*
  • You may vote on any themes you like (including your own)
  • There is no double voting, each vote must be cast for a different theme
  • I encourage all of you to pick your top 4 themes and vote them up
  • Voting will close at 13:00 on UTC January 31st
  • The chosen theme will be announced at 14:00 UTC on January 31st (1 hour prior to the start of the jam)

*Please note use of multiple accounts (sock puppets) to influence the results is strongly prohibited. I am sure you all understand why.  ;)

I wanted to register just now and got:
Warning: PDOStatement::execute() expects at most 1 parameter, 2 given in /home1/jebbs/public_html/scripts/loginsession.php on line 57

Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /home1/jebbs/public_html/scripts/loginsession.php:57) in /home1/jebbs/public_html/scripts/doregister.php on line 15
but it seemed to have worked anyway...

Also maybe it should be checkboxes, not radioboxes for voting? Since you can select more than 1 and radioboxes are mutually exclusive... it's a bit tedious to redo it 4 times.

Thanks, I made a bug without realizing it, it should be good now  ;)

(you may need to re-register)

Well the amount of votes you can cast is adjustable, so I went with radio buttons and you can select 1 theme, vote and then repeat until you reach the set limit  ;)

Yes, your votes most likely ended in errors, but since you were redirected away from the script page those errors never saw the light of day and your votes went down a black hole  ;)

I don't know if we are supposed to mention themes here (it could influence the voting and all), but I don't think "candy" is a good theme; it already seems to be taken. ::)

First and foremost no one can copyright an idea. If copyrighting ideas was permitted then the entire world would be in some serious trouble. Anyways Candy Crush Saga is just another match 3+ game that happens to utilize little candies  :P

Second, the themes can be used in any way as long as the game somehow uses the theme in some way (conventional or non-conventional). Take for example the first SFML Game Jam with the theme of "Lights and Shadows!". The games that were produced used this concept in so many different and unique ways. Now considering how the theme you are talking about and how generic it is, just sitting here I can think of multiple ways to integrate this into a game design.

And third, the themes are suggested by the community and voted on by the community.  ;) So the community will decide if it is a good theme. The only reason I would remove themes is if they contain inappropriate language.  8)

I'm not sure if I'll be able to participate but I have cool idea to mix two of the themes I chose, could I do that if one of them was selected?

That's perhaps too late for this time, but as a side note for next time : could we vote for the four themes at once ? Else remove the themes we vote for from the list and perhaps put them in another one

Edit: oh, could we have the number/percentages of vote for each themes once the jam will have begun ? I'm curious about some of them :)
