Yes, I know the arrow looks a little bit strange ;)

I made it blue/green to fit the color theme, and thick to have almost square dimensions (which is necessary for 16x16 logos). One possibility would also be to have 2-3 thin arrows that cross each other, but then the logo would again become more complex.

A stylized arrow would also be an option, have you thought of something like here? I just think it should still somehow be special to be recognized as SFML, even though it can be simple.

I think the pentagon could work really well. For comparison, here's the pentagon-based logo I proposed a number of pages back (http://en.sfml-dev.org/forums/index.php?topic=4960.msg71784#msg71784)..

And Bigz:

I think having a rotating pentagon as an animated version is a great idea. I can imagine my own SFML game moonman booting up showing the rotating pentagon. Each binding of SFML could use a different colour too, e.g., rbSFML could be red, pySFML could be a stripey-snake pattern, etc..

This is the best logo I have seen since the begining. Very clean, simple and nice looking !
Laurent, what do you think about it ?

It doesn't look bad, but I don't find it awesome. But you're right, it's probably one of the best so far. However I tried to integrate it to the website, and it doesn't fit very well :-\

If you have an idea on how to change or simplify the arrow, just tell me, then I can try to adapt it. Also don't hesitate to create own variations!

And if you don't like the idea at all, then tell that too ;)

I really like that one. It's simple, even has a meaning (I'm sure that no one will find it out, but you have something to tell if you get asked ;)), easily recognizable etc.

I agree that so far this one could be the most recognizable, I like the simplicity.

Here's an album of other library/open source project logos, which could perhaps serve as some inspiration. http://imgur.com/a/oz4tV

I don't hate the pentagon, but it seems so... meh. It doesn't really stand out or have any kind of visual intrigue.

I'm going to post a few things. Note that these are meant to spawn ideas. I'm not really in love with what I'm posting.

Trying to get people to think of a different type of pentagon:

Alternate:

Completely changing things up (I'm not too fond of the font) (it's supposed to be the "Standby" power symbol):

I'm not too fond of this one:

Just had another idea (combining the two from my last post):

Version 1:

Rotated:

Again, these are just ideas I'm throwing around.

Nice ideas. What made you choose the standby symbol?

Not bad. Could you try more combinations, with the pentagon-shutdown icon and the "SFML" text together? And maybe different fonts, colors, etc.

Nice ideas. What made you choose the standby symbol?
I chose it for two reasons. One, it is associated by people with "power on" and I think SFML "turns the power on." Two, it's actually tech/computer related (I kept thinking of a lawn company looking at the green pentagon... it's not bad, but I wanted to try and get people to actually think of something computer related). I originally thought of the block one because I was trying to create a distinguishable symbol (the generic round standby symbol is used outside of SFML). I decided to merge the two ideas (the pentagon, representing the 5 parts of SFML, and the power symbol) and that's how I came up with that version.

Here are some different versions (the glowing ones were supposed to emphasize "power on"):

And Laurent, here are a few with the "SFML" by it:

Again, just rough sketches. I can provide the SVG file if someone wants to play around with it or try different font combinations. I can also post more font combos myself if anyone would like me to.

Here are a few colored options:

Again, I just want to emphasize these are rough sketches.

It also kind of looks like a tank, seen from above.

The power on button is really a nice idea :)

I like the middle column more than the right one, the symbol is simpler and doesn't look "interrupted" (in the right symbol, the upper edge is "broken"). I experimented a little:
