I think nobody cares what the meaning of a logo is, it just needs to be memorable and identifiable. Look at the logo of famous and popular brands. :p

BTW will there be a proper poll?
I like this one. (though it would be better without the "web 2.0 shadow" :p )

No. Everyone already gave his opinion, I think it would be useless to start collecting feeback again.

I think it's pretty clear that the winner is one of these two variations:

The latter looks very good indeed, but it can't beat the quality in the others I believe :D

Good to see that we are getting to an end! :)

I find the development of the logo quite interesting: It began with a pentagon for the 5 modules, then the idea of a power button came up, and eventually it was combined with the arrow (simple and fast / moving forward).

Although the one with the arrow has a stronger meaning, I personally prefer the other one.

I did post a version without the shadow :)

Wouldn't it be better with a longer arrow and the power symbol nearer the SFML, like this :
...
I certainly think it's worth trying!

Putting the logo on the other side of "SFML" might also be worth considering, since it could move closer to "SFML", because of the space the 'L' provides (in contrast to 'S').
The first several iterations had the symbol on the right, but after several suggest it be moved to the left I moved tot he left. I think the symbol on the left gives it a more natural left-to-right reading. But yes, fine tuning the kerning between the L and the symbol could be neat, but I think putting it on the left is best.

Here is another concept that someone sent me. The idea behind the logo is obvious, no need to explain :P
...
It actually took me a long time to try and get the idea behind the logo (and there are a couple parts of it I'm still not 100% sure about). I like the idea (it's trying to visually describe what SFML does), but I think it comes across as busy/anti-simple.

I like Cornstalks' 3rd variant (shadow or not depends on context) - but wouldn't it be better to make the text colour brighter/more white? Right now it looks dark, dirty and evil.
I've posted several versions with the white text but no one ever said they preferred it (as opposed to the dark, which got mentioned several times) (at least I don't recall the white being preferred). But I feel the same, and actually prefer the white. I'll post some version with white text (and if there are things about the white text that could make it better, just say so!).

Alright, now I'm going to post some more variants/tweaks...

I think that the arrow could be improved a little. To me it looks like at the end on the left side it curves down too much. An on the second fold, it gets a little too narrow. My vote would still be with this logo, though they all look great. SFML 2 is released today, right?

Probably because it's always shown on white background. But on the website, for example, a white version would integrate better.

The logo is chosen today. Then it's finalized, integrated, and SFML 2 is released next week ;)

Here's a few testing some outlines and brightnesses:

And all of these are about testing some different arrow lengths, gradients, and light vs dark:

Woot, white text makes it amazing!

I like #8.

The text is bright and its shading isn't too noticeable.
The powerbutton similarly has a good contrast while not looking evil (like #6 and above).

However the outline is kinda jagged/aliased, and could probably be slightly brighter.
It might be nice to have the outline be the same hue as the content but darker (as in text outline is grey, powerbutton is green).

Maybe #9 would look nice with the drop shadow...

But again, the outline/shadow would probably depend on the context it's used in.

In my opinion, #15 and #18 are really good.

Ah, that would make sense. The others had a very light outline/no shadow.

But on the website, for example, a white version would integrate better.
I agree. Of course, we could have dual dark/light versions. Or just one. Or whatever.

However the outline is kinda jagged/aliased, and could probably be slightly brighter.
Yeah... It's a bit frustrating because I work on a high DPI (Apple Retina) display, so it's got a great, crisp outline, but then exporting the bitmap for lower-DPI screens screws up some of the fine lines...

Here's a slightly better version, a bit higher res with better downsampling:

It might be nice to have the outline be the same hue as the content but darker (as in text outline is grey, powerbutton is green).
Here's one version. I had to make the outline a little thicker for it to show better.

And here's one without an outline on the symbol:

Maybe #9 would look nice with the drop shadow...

It's not May yet...

But, that said, it is now the 29th of April (in France), so I'm hoping a final decision has been made on the logo...
